ABILENE, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' women's basketball team rolled over Howard Payne, 75-38, on Thursday night in American Southwest Conference action at the Mabee Complex.
It was senior night for the five Cowgirl seniors –
Aiken Semones,
Kylie Ellsworth,
Kynnan Shields,
Mary Jo Parker and
Katie Baller.
The game was close in the early going and was tied at 9-9, but the Cowgirls went on an 11-0 run to push the lead out to 20-9 and were never threatened the rest of the contest.
The Cowgirls outscored the Lady Jackets 25-6 in the second quarter and led 45-17 at halftime. HSU substituted liberally throughout most of the contest.
Abbie Crow scored a career-best 14 points to lead the Cowgirls. Ellsworth had 12 points, five assists and four steals in her last game at the Mabee Complex. Semones added 11 points in her final game, going 4-for-4 from the field and 3-for-3 from 3-point range.
HSU held HPU to 15-of-49 from the field for 30.6 percent and forced 29 turnovers. HSU had a 34-8 advantage in points off of turnovers.
Madison Clay was the only HPU player in double figures with 14 points.
The Cowgirls are now 18-5 on the year and 4-3 in ASC play. Howard Payne fell to 4-19 overall and 0-7 in ASC action.
HSU will close the regular season with a two-game trip to Mary Hardin-Baylor and UT Dallas.
