ABILENE, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' Cowboy tennis team fell 7-0 to the No. 11 Trinity Tigers on Friday afternoon at the Streich Tennis Center with a big doubles win over the top pair.
The Cowboys won the first doubles match with
Zach Fowler and
Paxton O'Shea defeating Kersten and Mendez 6-3. The Trinity pair is currently the No. 15 doubles team in Division III for the Tigers, and both individuals were named All-Americans last season at Trinity.
The Cowboys dropped the additional two doubles matches to lose the one point for all three doubles matches. Hardin-Simmons went in order in singles to drop 7-0 to the No. 11 Tigers.
Payne Smith played to a tie-break at singles No. 1, going down 6-4, 7-6(7-4) to Jared Perry.
The Cowboys go to 0-2 on the year and will travel to face Cal Lutheran playing at UT-Dallas next Friday before playing at LeTourneau on Feb. 15.
