IRVING, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' Cowgirl softball team swept the University of Dallas Crusaders for two wins on Friday night, winning 6-0 and 5-2 on the road.
The Cowgirls took game one handily 6-0 with a shutout of the Crusaders.
Erin Love had an RBI in the first to make it 1-0 and
Haley Henson singled in the second inning to make it a 2-0 Cowgirl lead.
Madi Hubbard drove in two RBIs in the fourth with a single and
Ava Dennis extend the lead to 5-0 with an RBI-single in the fifth inning.
Grace Thompson singled to score the final Cowgirl run in the seventh in the shutout win.
Lindsey Ratcliffe and Jazzy Cantu each had two hits in the first game for the Cowgirls, Ratcliffe with two doubles. Hubbard led the team with two RBIs.
Gabby Montanez started her second game of the year for Hardin-Simmons and had seven strikeouts against the Crusaders. She allowed only three hits and didn't allow a free pass in the complete game shutout for her second win.
Honor Knott started the second game with an RBI-single to take the lead 1-0 for the Cowgirls in the second inning. Dallas came back to lead the Cowgirls 2-1 after the fourth inning.
Henson doubled for an RBI to tie the game for the Cowgirls in the seventh inning 2-2.
Ella Salinas then tripled, driving in two more Cowgirl runs.
Bailey Miller got another Cowgirl RBI on a sac fly to make it a 5-2 lead.
The Cowgirl defense held and won the day 5-2 in the final inning.
Kelly Shackelford started and threw a complete game for HSU in game two with a strikeout for Hardin-Simmons in the win.
Salinas finished with two hits and two RBIs to lead the Cowgirls in game two in the comeback win late. HSU finished with nine hits including four doubles and two triples against Dallas in game two.
Hardin-Simmons improves to 4-0 on the season and will head back to Ellis Field on Saturday to host the Schreiner Mountaineers for two games beginning at 2 p.m.
