ABILENE, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' Cowboy tennis team won two matches in a sweep, both by a score of 7-0, playing McMurry and Howard Payne, the latter in American Southwest Conference play for the win at the Streich Tennis Center on Friday.
The Cowboys swept the score 7-0 and 7-0 on Friday. They won 17 out of 18 total matches, including all 12 singles matches in two games.
Payne Smith and
Brandon Curiel won at the first doubles match twice.
The doubles teams of
Zach Fowler and
Gavin Hail won against McMurry and Howard Payne, and Nick Bouquet and
Maddux Foster defeated Howard Payne.
Payne Smith, Nick Bouquet,
Brandon Curiel,
Maddux Foster, and
Jordan Oberbillig all went 2-0 in singles with wins against McMurry and Howard Payne.
Zach Fowler and
Gavin Hail each had one win on the day for Hardin-Simmons, against Howard Payen and McMurry, respectively.
The Cowboys pull to an even record of 3-3 and win the first ASC match of the year against Howard Payne in the 7-0 sweep. HSU will host Texas Wesleyan and Texas A&M Texarkana on Saturday at 11 a.m. and 3 p.m.
