ABILENE, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' Cowgirl tennis team defeated McMurry and Howard Payne on Friday at the Streich Tennis Center by scores of 7-0 and 6-1.
The Cowgirls took down McMurry in order in the morning match.
Laurel Coleman and
Jonnah Smith won the one doubles 6-3 and
Triniti McBride and
Allison Goggans won the three doubles 6-2 for the point.
Coleman played one singles for a 6-0, 6-1 win and Smith won two singles 6-4, 6-2.
Sydney Tomlin won three singles 6-2, 6-2 and
Emma Curiel won four singles 6-1, 6-0 for the Cowgirls.
McBride and
Halle Smith swept the final two singles matches a perfect 6-0, 6-0 for Hardin-Simmons over the War Hawks.
The Cowgirls took all three doubles matches for the point against Howard Payne in the afternoon match.
Coleman and Smith swept the one doubles 6-0, while
Taylor Levy and Tomlin won 6-1 and
Halle Smith and Tylaska won 6-1 at three doubles.
Coleman won 6-2, 6-1 and Tomlin won 6-3, 6-0 in singles for HSU. Levy won 6-3, 6-1, Curiel won 6-2, 6-2 and
Halle Smith won 6-1, 6-0 to finish the Cowgirl win over Howard Payne.
The Cowgirls improve to 3-2 on the season and get the first American Southwest Conference win over HPU to go to 1-0 in conference. The Cowgirls will play Saturday at 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. against Texas Wesleyan and Texas A&M Texarkana.
