ABILENE, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' Cowgirl softball team won two games against Arlington Baptist on Wednesday night, winning 19-0 and 9-0 at Ellis Field in the doubleheader.
The Cowgirls opened fast and stayed on the gas with four runs in the first inning, three in the second, nine in the fourth, and three in the fourth to win game one 19-0 against the Patriots.
The Cowgirls combined for 20 hits in the game.
Ava Dennis went 4-4 with four runs scored in the game to lead Hardin-Simmons.
Abbey Tarr,
Ella Salinas, and
Jazlynn Cantu all had three RBIs in game one to lead the Cowgirls.
Caitlin Clem had two RBIs on a triple,
Emily Jacobs drove in two RBIs, and
Madi Hubbard,
Lindsey Ratcliffe,
Bailey Miller, and
Kristen McMillan finished with an RBI for the Cowgirls.
Akaysia Grogan went for four innings in the win pitching for the Cowgirls with four strikeouts and no hits given up.
Hannah Aaron had one inning and struck out the side to finish Hardin-Simmons.
The Cowgirls cooled off and only scored nine in the shutout win in game two against Arlington Baptist.
HSU scored five runs in the first inning with two RBIs coming from a Clem homerun who barreled one straight out of left field. The Cowgirls added an RBI from
Erin Love in the third inning and had RBIs from
Grace Thompson and
Abbey Tarr in the fourth to get up 9-0 for the win.
Salinas, Clem, and Love had two hits each in game two to lead the Cowgirls. Clem and Thompson each had two RBIs to lead the Cowgirls in game two.
Gabby Montanez pitched four innings in the win with three strikeouts and
Kelly Shackelford finished the shutout with a clean inning for the Cowgirls.
Haley Henson extended her hitting streak to 19 games with a hit in each game against Arlington Baptist on Wednesday.
The Cowgirls improved to 14-3 on the season and will host the University of St. Thomas on Saturday at Ellis Field beginning at 12 p.m. for two games. Cowgirl softball senior day will be held at the conclusion of game two on Saturday at approximately 4 p.m.
