AUSTIN, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' baseball team fell 7-6 to Concordia on Tuesday night at Gardner-Boggs Field in Austin.
The Cowboys took an early 2-0 lead when
Justin Blancaflor and
Cannon Negron had bases loaded walks in the first inning. Concordia scored a run on a wild pitch in the first inning.
Keaton Schwestka hit his first career home run in the second inning for HSU.
Concordia tied the game with two runs in the third inning and pushed the lead to 6-3 with three more runs in the fourth.
HSU rallied back to tie the game at 6-6.
Brock Calvillo had an RBI double in the sixth and Blancaflor added a two-run triple.
Mason Vasquez had an RBI double in the seventh inning to drive in what proved to be the winning run for the Tornados.
Jacob Hollingsworth had three hits to pace the Cowboys' 11-hit attack. Aaron Gomez had three hits to pace Concordia.
Guy George started and worked three innings for the Cowboys, allowing three runs.
Jace Martinez allowed three runs in one inning,
Bradley Fletcher allowed one run over three innings and
Johnny Follett worked a scoreless eighth. Fletcher took the loss.
Concordia used five pitchers and David Matthews picked up the win. Ralph Wallace worked a scoreless ninth for the save.
HSU is now 3-9 on the year and will return to action on Wednesday at 5 p.m. when it hosts Trinity. Concordia improved to 10-4 on the season.
