DALLAS, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' men's and women's tennis teams defeated ETBU 4-3 in American Southwest Conference play and fell to Division II school Dallas Baptist 4-1 and 4-0 between the men's and women's teams on Friday.
The Cowboys dropped the doubles point to the ETBU Tigers and had to win four of six singles matches to take the match 4-3.
Payne Smith won at one singles 6-4, 6-2 and
Nick Boquet won 7-6(7-4), 6-2 at two singles for the Cowboys.
Zach Fowler won a split set 1-6, 6-4, 6-2 at three singles to tie the match at 3-3.
Maddux Foster won the match for HSU in a split win at six singles. He defeated Austin 6-3, 3-6, 6-1 to get the ASC win 4-3 for the Cowboys.
The Cowgirls also won 4-3 over ETBU in the final match. HSU swept the doubles point with wins from
Laurel Coleman and Jonnah smith,
Taylor Levy and
Sydney Tomlin, and
Halle Smith and
Addyson Tylaska.
Coleman won a split one singles match 6-2, 4-6, 6-4 and Levy won four singles in another split set 6-4, 6-7 (9-11), 6-3 to get the game to 3-3 against ETBU.
Emma Curiel won the fourth and deciding match at five singles from behind 5-7, 6-0, 6-1 in the 4-3 Cowgirl win.
The Cowgirls went in order to the Division II Dallas Baptist 4-0 playing until the match clinch.
The Cowboys got a win over the DII team from Boquet in the two singles game. He won 1-6, 6-3, 1-0(10-6) playing JW Altman of DBU.
The Cowboys go to 4-6 and 2-0 in the ASC and the Cowgirls end the day 4-5 and 2-0 in the conference as well. The games previously scheduled for Saturday with UT-Dallas have been postponed. Hardin-Simmons will next play on March 20
t on the road against LeTourneau.
