RICHARDSON, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' Cowgirl softball team took the first two games of the series playing at Texas-Dallas on Thursday night with wins of 7-5 and 11-3 in five innings.
HSU was in for a slugfest in game one that had six total home runs between the two teams.
Emily Jacobs had an RBI in the third to open the game and
Caitlin Clem hit a solo home run in the fourth to get the Cowgirl lead to 2-0. Clem leads the team with four homers on the season.
The Comets of UTD answered with three runs on two home runs to lead 3-2 before the Cowgirls rebounded.

Ella Salinas drove in a run to tie the game and
Lindsey Ratcliffe took the lead 4-3 with an RBI.
Madi Hubbard and
Jazlynn Cantu each added RBI singles to get the Cowgirls up 6-3 in the fifth inning.
UTD hit another home run, but
Haley Henson hit a home run out of center for a 7-4 Cowgirl lead in the sixth inning. The Comets added another home run but still lost to the Cowgirls 7-5.
Henson had three hits with a double and a home run to lead the Cowgirls in hitting.
Gabby Montanez remained undefeated in her 14
th win with six innings in the start and three strikeouts.
Kelly Shackelford got her first save of the year in one inning with just one hit.
Hardin-Simmons made short work of the Comets in the second game. After falling behind 2-1, the Cowgirls had innings of five and four runs before winning 11-3 in the fifth inning.
Salinas had a three-run homer in the second inning to make the game 6-2. She finished with four RBIs to lead the Cowgirls in game two.
Henson had two RBIs along with three more hits for six hits in two games on Thursday. Jacobs and Clem added RBIs. Jacobs and Salinas also had three hits against UTD in the 11-3 win.
Akaysia Grogan pitched five innings with three strikeouts in the win for the Cowgirls in the run rule. She now has a record of 7-1 on the year.
The Cowgirls improve to 25-4 and will continue the series with two games tomorrow at UT-Dallas beginning at noon in Richardson.
