RICHARDSON, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' Cowgirl softball team defeated the UT-Dallas Comets 8-6 and 7-3 to get the four-game sweep on Friday on the road.
The Cowgirls had to comeback late in game one after trailing 4-0 in the fourth inning. Hardin-Simmons scored eight runs in the final four innings to win the game 8-6 in eight innings.
Emily Jacobs homered for three RBIs in the fifth inning and
Bailey Miller knocked in an RBI in the sixth. The Cowgirls scored on an error and
Ella Salinas got an RBI to take the lead 6-5.
UTD tied the game at 6-6 to force extra innings, and the Cowgirls took the lead with
Lindsey Ratcliffe and
Madi Hubbard RBIs to go up 8-6 for the win in eight innings.
Ratcliffe led the team with four hits and two doubles. Jacobs led in RBIs with three on the home run.
Kelly Shackelford started pitching for HSU and went three plus innings with a strikeout.
Gabby Montanez threw a pair of innings with a strikeout and
Hannah Aaron got the win in the final two innings with the late run support with a strikeout.
The Cowgirls trailed early in game two before a big second inning. Miller singled for an RBI and
Addyson Kahklen doubled to score and take the lead 2-1. Jacobs singles for another RBI and the Cowgirl scored again to lead 4-1 in the second inning.
Ratcliffe added a home run in the third for two RBIs to make it 6-2 and
Erin Love had an RBI to get the Cowgirls to seven runs in the 7-3 win.
Miller led the team with three hits in game two and Ratcliffe had two hits with two RBIs on the homer.
Akaysia Grogan pitched the whole way for the Cowgirls with seven innings and threw a season-high 11 strikeouts against the Comets in game two. She allowed just four hits in the win, her eighth of the year.
The Cowgirls finish the day at 27-4 and will head to Howard Payne next weekend for four games of an American Southwest Conference series beginning in Brownwood at 1 p.m. on April 25.
