NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Hardin-Simmons' Cowboy tennis team won 6-1 in a dual match against Virginia Wesleyan on Sunday playing at host school Christopher Newport.
The Cowboys rolled all three doubles matches for the point. Payen Smith and
Jameson Sorrell won 6-3 in the first match.
Zach Fowler and
Maddux Foster won the second doubles match 6-3 and
Nick Boquet and
Brandon Curiel got a win 6-2 in the third Cowboy doubles match.
Smith won 6-2, 7-6(7-4) in a tiebreaker win for the ace singles match.
Nick Boquet won the second singles match 6-4, 6-1 for the Cowboys.
Fowler defeated the Marlins in the third singles match in a split set 6-3, 1-6, 7-5. Curiel won in the fifth singles match 6-3, 6-1 and
Jordan Oberbillig won for the Cowboys in the sixth singles match 6-0, 6-4 to finish the 6-1 Cowboy win.
Hardin-Simmons improved to 7-10 in the season and will host the Southwestern Pirates on April 11 at 3 p.m. at the Streich Tennis Center in Abilene.
