Brewer, Holland, Cravens, Baller Named ASC Distinguished Scholar Athletes of the Year

DALLAS, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' had four student-athletes named distinguished scholar athletes of the year in their respective sport by the American Southwest Conference for the 2024-25 season.
 
The ASC DSA award combines excellence in academics with athletic accolades to pick the top student-athlete in each sport sponsored by the ASC.
 
Austin Brewer won for the second time in his career for men's basketball, Kylah Holland won for the second time in women's cross country, Mason Cravens earned the award for football, and Katie Baller was the award winner for women's track and field.
 
Brewer finished his MBA with a 4.0 after having a 4.0 undergrad degree in math. He was named a CSC Academic All-American for the Cowboys this season and was first-team all-ASC. Brewer averaged 14.9 points a game to lead the team and scored the 1000th point of his career this season, helping the Cowboys win the ASC championship and advance to the NCAA Sweet 16.
 
Holland finished the year with a 3.90 GPA in graduate school studying fitness, recreation, and sports management. She was the ASC individual champion for women's cross country and set an ASC championship record time 0f 22:50 in the 6k. Holland advanced to the NCAA Regional race for the third time in her career this season.
 
Cravens finished his career with a 4.0 GPA studying economics with Cowboy football. He was named second-team all-ASC and was a CSC Academic All-American. Cravens received the Academic Foundation Medal for being the top male student at the December graduation, was recognized as the Fellowship of Christian Athletes Tri-City Huddle Athlete of the Year, and named a member of the NFF Hampshire Honor Society.
 
Baller finished her graduate degree in criminal justice with a 4.0 GPA for the Cowgirls after transferring in. She led Hardin-Simmons in the high jump all season and finished the season ranked No. 32 in the NCAA Division III high jump with a clear of 5-5 ft., leading all ASC competitors in the event.
 
 Sixteen sponsored sports by the ASC have nominations by member schools and affiliates that sponsor a sport with the conference. Nominations and votes are completed by Athletic Directors.
 
The other HSU nominees by sport included: Karson Leatherwood (baseball), Aiden Seekins (men's cross country), Luke Jun (men's golf), James Webb (men's soccer), Jordan Oberbillig (men's tennis), Kennan Dowling (men's track and field), Jacqueline Berry (women's basketball), Shay West (women's golf), Belle Floyd (women's soccer), Grace Thompson (softball), Addyson Tylaska (women's tennis), and Liz Underwood (volleyball).
