HOUSTON, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' Cowgirl volleyball team swept two matches to open the 2025 season on Friday at the University of St. Thomas tournament, defeating Adrian College and Alverno College in straight sets.
The Cowgirls opened the season winning 3-0 against the Adrian Bulldogs in the morning game with sets of 25-22, 25-13, and 25-23. HSU hit for .311 with 47 kills in 106 attacks in the first match.
Liz Keidl led Hardin-Simmons in kills with 12, hitting .360 on 25 total attacks.
Leigh Jespersen had ten kills on 21 attacks for a .333 hitting percentage.
Keatyn Rodgers led the Cowgirls with 19 assists. Freshman
Allison O'Shaughnessy finished with 18 assists.
Kat Martinez had 17 digs to lead HSU from the libero spot and
Avery Tumlinson finished with five total blocks.
The Cowgirls won the second half of opening day against the Alverno Infernos 3-0 with set scores of 25-7, 25-6, and 25-10.
Rachel Nordt led the match with six kills and Jespersen served six Cowgirl aces
Ari Villanueva had 11 digs to lead Hardin-Simmons in game two, and Rodgers finished with 12 assists to lead the team.
Abbi Allen ended the game with four total blocks for the Cowgirls.
The Cowgirls started the season 2-0 and will continue in the University of St. Thomas tournament in Houston on Saturday, with matches at 3:45 p.m. and 8:15 p.m.
