BELTON, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' Cowgirl volleyball team defeated the Schreiner Mountaineers 3-1 on Thursday afternoon to start the weekend stretch of four game hosted by Mary Hardin-Baylor in Belton.
The Cowgirls rebounded after dropping the first set and won three straight sets to win 3-1 over Schreiner in set scores of 21-25, 25-22, 25-23, 25-23. HSU finished the match with 56 kills in four sets and led Schreiner with 12 service aces and six blocks.
Liz Keidl had a season best with 15 kills on Thursday in Belton. She finished with three service aces in the match and is averaging 2.79 kills per set through eight games for the Cowgirls so far.
Gabby Jones hit ten kills in the game with 20 total attacks for the Cowgirls.
Leigh Jespersen and
Jadyn Hernandez each had nine kills for Hardin-Simmons against Schreiner.
Keatyn Rodgers and
Allison O'Shaughnessy both went over 20 assists in the match, with 24 and 21 assists each, respectively.
Ari Villanueva had 20 digs in the win to lead Hardin-Simmons and Jespersen finished with 17 digs against Schreiner.
The Cowgirls improved to 6-2 with the win over Schreiner on Thursday and will play the LeTourneau YellowJackets on Friday at 2:30 p.m. hosted by UMHB in Belton.
