Story Links

ABILENE, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' Cowboy soccer team rolled to a 7-1 victory over the McMurry War Hawks on Thursday night at the HSU Soccer Complex with a first-half hat trick from James Webb.

In the second minute of the game, Jaxon Shaffer beat the defense down and in for a ball to Webb on the backside for a lefty finish and the game-winner early.

Jerron Garcia put a shot on goal saved by McMurry in the 17th minute, but the keeper couldn't collect the ball, and Webb came in to score a second goal for the Cowboys.

After a McMurry red card in the 29th minute, Hardin-Simmons put a free kick off the post that rebounded directly to Webb who shoed in a third goal for the hat trick in less than 30 minutes of game time. He leads the Cowboys with four goals on the year.

The scoring didn't stop for the Cowboys with a goal from Nick Ocasio after another shot saved by McMurry, this time the assist going to Gabriel Sias on the previous shot on goal in the 39th minute.

Benny Lube received a drop from Austin Randriamahefa and curved it in nicely over a keeper and defender for his second Cowboy goal of the season in the 61st minute.

McMurry scored to snap the shutout, but Hardin-Simmons finished with a Joseph Friederich solo goal in the 66th minute and a C.J. Munjoma goal in the 66th minute with an assist from Ocasio to make it a final score of 7-1 in the big win over McMurry.

Hardin-Simmons shot 24 times with 17 shots on goal and allowed eight McMurry shots with four shots on goal. HSU had ten corner kicks while McMurry finished with two corners.

Griffin Cardwell started in goal for the Cowboys and had one save in 45 minutes. Carson Null played the second half with 45 minutes and two saves.
