BALTIMORE, Md. – Hardin-Simmons' Cowgirl volleyball team split on Friday, winning 3-0 against UMass Dartmouth and falling to tournament host No. 4 Johns Hopkins by a score of 3-0.
The Cowgirls handed the Corsairs of UMass Dartmouth their first loss of the season with straight sets of 25-15, 25-16, and 25-19. HSU hit .362 with 43 kills in 94 attacks, served five aces and finished with seven blocks in the win.
Leigh Jespersen led the Cowgirls in the game with ten kills and
Gabby Jones had a hitting percentage of .800 in the middle, with nine kills on ten swings.
Ari Villanueva had 14 digs, and
Keatyn Rodgers had 19 assists while
Allison O'Shaughnessy finished with 17 assists.
The Cowgirls went down against the host school No. 4 Johns Hopkins in sets of 25-16, 25-20, and 25-21.
Jespersen and
Jadyn Hernandez had eight kills each for the Cowgirls against the Blue Jays. Rodgers finished with 14 assists and A. O'Shaughnessy assisted 12 times.
Kat Martinez led the team with 17 digs against Johns Hopkins.
The Cowgirls finished Friday with a record of 4-2 on the season and will play one more match at the Johns Hopkins Invitational on Saturday at 11 a.m. against Colby-Sawyer.
