LA VERNE, Calif. – Hardin-Simmons' Cowgirl basketball team ran by the La Verne Leopards 70-47 on Sunday afternoon for a convincing 23-point win to wrap the trip to California and claim the 14
th win for HSU this season.
The Cowgirls opened up 24-11 to lead after the first frame and did not look back in the win. Hardin-Simmons shot 45 percent on 27-of-60 shooting and held the Leopards to shooting just 35 percent on 16-of-46 makes in the game.
The Cowgirls finished with 15 assists against La Verne and forced 21 turnovers on defense in the win.
Three Cowgirls were in double-figures,
Caroline Croft leading the game with 15 points. Croft added six assists as well.
Jacqueline Berry and
Avery Cathey scored 12 points each for the Cowgirl team, Berry adding nine rebounds to lead the team along with five assists.
The Cowgirls finish up in California 14-3 and will return to Texas to play at Mary Hardin-Baylor on Jan. 24 at 1 p.m. to open American Southwest Conference play on the road.
