KERRVILLE, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' Cowboy basketball team won 96-56 playing at Schreiner University against the Mountaineers on Saturday.
Myles Amason finished with a career-high 20 points to lead the Cowboys in the game. He shot 5-of-9 with 9-of-13 made free throws in the win.
Four other Cowboys joined Amason in double-digits scoring.
Chris Bryant scored 14 points on 6-of-8 shooting. Freshman
Jared Cox scored a season-best 13 points and led the team with nine rebounds sinking a pair of 3-pointers.
Matthew Alexander scored 11 and
Andrew Messenger ended with ten points for Hardin-Simmons at Schreiner.
HSU started fast and did not look back in the big win, up 20-11 midway through the first after a Messenger 3-pointer. The Cowboys led at the half 48-28 and outscored Schreiner again by a 48-28 margin for the 96-56 win.
Hardin-Simmons shot 55 percent on 33-of-60 shooting, including 10-of-19 from 3-point land. HSU led the rebounding margin 45-35 over Schreiner.
The Cowboys improved to 9-8 on the year and will return to Abilene to host Colorado College on Monday, Jan. 5 with tip-off at 1 p.m.
