ABILENE, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' Cowgirl tennis team won two matches to start the 2026 spring season playing against Howard Payne on Friday, winning 6-1 and 6-1 at the Streich Tennis Center.
Taylor Levy and
Addyson Tylaska defeated Lightner and Ramos 7-5 in the first doubles flight.
Christa Bennett and
Halle Smith won 6-2 over Werlein and Delafuente in doubles flight number two.
Sydney Tomlin won two singles 6-2, 6-2 against Ramos.
Brenna Gordon won 6-2, 6-1 playing Delafuente in three singles, and
Emma Curiel won 6-2, 6-1 at four singles over Werlein.
The Cowgirls took the third doubles and fifth and sixth singles on wins by forfeit to win 6-1 in the morning match.
Tomlin and Gordon won the first doubles match of game two by a score of 6-4 over Lightner and Ramos. Curiel and
Allie Dunn played to a 6-4 against Delafuente and Werlein in the second doubles match.
Tomlin won the top singles match on a 4-1 retire from Lightner. Levy won the second singles match in straight 6-0, 6-0 sets against Ramos. Tylaska played and won the third singles match 6-0, 6-0 playing Delafuente.
The Cowgirls again won the remaining points on forfeits for the 6-1 win in the afternoon rematch with the Yellow Jackets.
The Cowgirls started the season 2-0 and will play again on Feb. 21 with two matches against Texas Wesleyan and Sam Houston State, beginning at 9 a.m. at the Streich Tennis Center in Abilene.
