ABILENE, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' Cowgirl softball team won 9-5 at McMurry on Tuesday night with three doubles and a big home run making the difference in the win.
The Cowgirls trailed the War Hawks after one inning 1-0.
Ava Dennis singled up the middle and an error trying to corral it led to the Cowgirls tying the game 1-1 in the third inning.
Emily Jacobs went yard to finish the third inning for the Cowgirls with a bang, scoring three RBIs on the long ball to take the lead 4-1.
McMurry added a few runs but did not regain the lead as the Cowgirls added a score on a wild pitch, a
Madi Hubbard RBI-single, and a
Jazlynn Cantu double for two RBIs to lead 8-3 in the fifth inning.
Hubbard added another RBI on a single in the seventh inning, and the Cowgirl defense held off McMurry 9-5 to win.
The Cowgirls finished with 12 hits, and
Kinzley Cantu had two hits in the leadoff spot at McMurry. She leads the team early in the year with 11 hits in five games, with at least two hits in every game thus far.

Madi Hubbard, and
Jazlynn Cantu all had two hits each for the Cowgirls at McMurry. Thompson hit a double and
Jazlynn Cantu hit two doubles.
Jacobs finished with three RBIs on the home run, and Hubbard and
Jazlynn Cantu had two RBIs each.
Akaysia Grogan ended the win with seven innings pitched and four strikeouts in the complete game. She improved to 2-1 on the season.
Hardin-Simmons is now 3-2 and will travel to Jackson, Miss. to play games against Centenary and Belhaven on Friday and Saturday, beginning at 3:30 p.m. on Feb. 20 against Centenary.
