ABILENE, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' baseball swept a doubleheader from Central College, winning 11-1 and 5-4 on Saturday afternoon at John J. Hunter Field.
In the first game, the Cowboys scored nine runs over the final two innings for the 11-1 run-rule win.
Caleb Reynolds went the distance for the Cowboys to improve to 1-2 on the year. He scattered six hits, allowed one run and struck out seven. Jackson Torbit took the loss for the Dutch allowing two runs over five innings of work.
Mike Lozano gave the Cowboys the lead in the first with a sacrifice fly and added a second RBI in the fourth with an RBI groundout. Brock Luna added a solo home run in the fifth inning to cut the deficit to 2-1.
HSU scored four times in the sixth inning.
Paul Samaripa and
Justin Blancaflor each had two-run RBI singles in the inning.
The Cowboys put the run rule into effect with five runs in the seventh.
Cannon Negron had an RBI double, Lozano added an RBI single and Blancaflor added a three-run double.
Blancaflor drove in five runs and had two hits.
Catcher Ridings, Negron, Lozano and Fielder each had two hits as the Cowboys racked up 14 knocks in the game.
In game two, the Dutch jumped out to a 2-0 lead with RBI singles by Max Steinlage in the first and Dom DeLapaz in the third.

Gavin Bruning had an RBI triple in the fourth inning and came around to score on a Samaripa RBI single to tie the game.
Steinlage added an RBI double in the fifth to make the score 3-2 and the Cowboys answered back in the bottom of the fifth with a two-run home run by
Jacob Hollingsworth.
Bruning gave the Cowboys an insurance run when he reached on a bunt single and moved to third on a wild pitch and scored when the throw to third got away for an error. That proved beneficial as the Dutch added a run in the ninth but the Cowboys got the final out on a pop up.
Jeron Flores went seven inning and moved to 3-0 on the year. He scattered eight hits and allowed three runs while striking out five.
Ethan Cloudt earned his first save of the year with one and two-third innings of work.
Hollingsworth and Bruning had three hits each for the Cowboys and Steinlage had four hits for the Dutch.
HSU is now 6-4 on the year and will host the University of Dallas on Tuesday at 5 p.m.
