ABILENE, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' team fell behind 8-0 but came storming back and beat the University of Dallas 17-10 in non-conference action on Tuesday evening at Hunter Field.

Dylan Goddard had an RBI triple in the first, Caleb Mize homered in the second and the Crusaders' first seven batters of the third inning reached and six of them scored to jump out to an 8-0 lead.  

It was all Cowboys after that as Justin Blancaflor had an RBI groundout in the third and another run scored after four straight UD walks to cut the deficit to 8-2.

Paul Samaripa hit a two-run single for the Cowboys in the fifth to cut the deficit in half. After a Luke Gill home run for UD made it 9-4 in the sixth the Cowboys scored six runs in the bottom of the sixth inning.
The first run scored on a balk, Brock Calvillo had an RBI single and Mike Lozano added a two-run double. Karson Leatherwood had a pinch-hit RBI triple and scored on a Samaripa sacrifice fly to give the Cowboys a 10-9 lead.

Calvillo added an RBI single in the seventh and Lozano hammered a ball over the trees in right center for a three-run home run.

HSU pushed the lead to 17-9 with three runs in the eighth inning. Catcher Ridings had an RBI double and Calvillo added a two-run double.

HSU pounded out 16 hits with Samaripa, Calvillo and Gavin Brunning collecting three hits each. Lozano drove in six runs and Calvillo brought home six.

Freshman Garrett Keller received his first career start and allowed five runs on six hits. Fellow freshman Kannon Baird came on for Keller in the second inning and initially gave up three runs but settled down and got out of the inning and had a scoreless fourth and fifth innings. He earned his first collegiate win with four innings of work, allowing five hits and four runs.

Bradley Fletcher worked a scoreless seventh with a pair of strikeouts. Bo Bolton struck out the side in the eighth and freshman Van Brady allowed a solo home run but finished with a pair of strikeouts. The Cowboys combined to strike out 13 batters on the night.

Mize, Gill and Walker Alsobrooks had two hits each for UD.  G. Barney, the third of seven pitchers used for the Crusaders, took the loss.

The Cowboys have won five of six games to improve to 7-4 on the year. UD snapped a two-game winning streak and fell to 2-8 on the year.

HSU travels to Pearl, Miss, this weekend for three games, starting with North Park on Friday at 2 p.m.
