IRVING, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' baseball team exploded for 24 more runs in a 24-3 run-rule win over the University of Dallas on Wednesday afternoon in Irving.
Paul Samaripa started off a big offensive day with a two-run home run in the second inning. HSU added another run on a wild pitch later in the frame. HSU added six more runs in the third on a two-run double by
Catcher Ridings and an RBI double by
Gavin Bruning and a three-run home run by Samaripa.
Except for one inning of wildness, the Cowboy pitching was dominant.
Jeron Flores started and went three-plus innings. He tossed three scoreless innings before walking two and hitting a batter to lead off the fourth inning.
Jack Kimsey came on and struck out the first two batters, then walked three straight with the bases loaded to give the Crusaders their only runs of the day. He did not allow a hit or run the rest of the game as he worked four scoreless innings, striking out six to improve to 2-1 on the year.
The Cowboys added a five-spot in the sixth inning.
Hunter Trojacek had a bases-loaded walk, a
Benji Fielder an RBI single, a
Brock Calvillo RBI single and an RBI double by Ridings.
HSU added 10 more runs in the seventh inning on a bases-loaded hit by pitch by Fielder, a two-run double by
Cannon Negron, RBI singles by Calvillo, Ridings, Samaripa and Fielder and bases-loaded walks to Bruning, Trojacek and
Karson Leatherwood.
UD used seven different pitchers and walked 13 and hit two more.
Samaripa led the 18-hit attack with five hits.
Brock Calvillo,
Catcher Ridings,
Gavin Bruning and
Benji Fielder all had three hits for the Cowboys.
Samaripa has four home runs in the last two days and extended his hitting streak to 16 games.
HSU is now 15-9 on the year and will return to action on Tuesday at Schreiner. UD fell to 8-16 on the year.
