ABILENE, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' Cowgirl softball team collected two wins in a doubleheader against Arlington Baptist on Wednesday, winning 13-0 in five innings and 10-2 in six innings over the Patriots at Lou Morton Ellis Field.
The Cowgirls went up early with 11 runs in the second inning of game one in the eventual 13-0 win.
Ella Salinas had two doubles with two RBIs, and
Grace Thompson finished with three RBIs.
Bailey Miller had two RBIs as well as
Madi Hubbard in game one.
Ava Dennis,
Jazlynn Cantu, and
Emily Jacobs each added a run batted in in the big win.
Gabby Montanez picked up her third win with four strikeouts in three innings with no hits.
Makenna Holloway threw two innings with only a walk allowed in the combined no-hitter for the Cowgirls in five innings pitched in game one.
Game two was a whirlwind for the Cowgirls, leading 2-0 after three innings. Salinas drove in one run and
Madi Hubbard singled for an RBI in the third inning. Arlington Baptist strung four hits together in the fourth inning to tie the Cowgirls 2-2.
Jazlynn Cantu singled to break the tie for a Hardin-Simmons RBI in the fifth inning and
Erin Love hit a homerun for two RBIs to make it 5-2 later in the inning.
Jazlynn Cantu added to the lead with sac fly RBI in the sixth inning, and Love had another RBI with a single to get it to 7-2 Cowgirls.
Kinzley Cantu sent a ball packing down the line in left for her first career homerun as a freshman at Hardin-Simmons, scoring three runs and ending the game in a run-rule 10-2 in the sixth inning.
Kinzley Cantu finished with three hits, three RBIs, and two runs scored with two stolen bases in the big win.
Kimma Kincaid earned the win in six innings thrown with five strikeouts against Arlington Baptist. She allowed just four hits with two runs in the game.
Alyssa Lusk had a three-hit game for the Cowgirls and
Ava Dennis and Love finished with two hits apiece.
Grace Thompson reached base three times on three walks and scored twice.
The Cowgirls improved to 14-4 on the season and will rest a weekend before heading to start American Southwest Conference play on April 10-11 at Mary Hardin-Baylor in Belton, Texas. The four-game series starts on Friday, April 10, with a doubleheader starting at 4 p.m. at UMHB.
