BELTON, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' Cowgirl softball team dropped two games on Thursday afternoon at Mary Hardin-Baylor to start American Southwest Conference play in Belton, Texas.
HSU went down 3-2 and 4-2 in two games against the Crusaders on Friday. The ASC series will continue at UMHB on Friday at 1 and 3 p.m.
The Cowgirls only gave up three hits in game one. Unfortunately, one was a three-run homerun in the first inning for Mary Hardin-Baylor, who went on to win 3-2.
Ella Salinas doubled for two RBIs in game one for the Cowgirl scoring plays.
Alyssa Lusk had two hits and scored a run for the Cowgirls in game one.
Kimma Kincaid had a good start for the Cowgirls, pitching six innings in the loss with three runs on three hits allowed. She threw four strikeouts and finished with four walks.
Hardin-Simmons went up 2-1 in game two after
Ella Salinas singled for two RBIs in the third inning.
UMHB scored one run in the third inning, one in the fifth, and another in the sixth inning, going on to win 4-2 against the Cowgirls.
Gabby Montanez pitched for the Cowgirls with six innings and three earned runs allowed on seven hits and three walks given up in the loss.
The Cowgirls are now 14-6 and 0-2 in the ASC and will play two more games against Mary Hardin-Baylor starting at 1 p.m. on Friday, April 10.
