ABILENE, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' Cowgirl softball team finished the four-game series sweep against Howard Payne on Saturday at Cowgirl softball senior day at Ellis Field in on Grape Street.
The Cowgirls won 12-4 in five innings and 6-1 against the Yellow Jackets. Hardin-Simmons honored nine seniors,
Grace Thompson,
Emily Jacobs,
Akaysia Grogan,
Jazlynn Cantu,
Abby Seitzinger,
Honor Knott,
Ella Salinas,
Madi Hubbard, and
Abbey Tarr before the final home game of the year.
The Cowgirls started
Kimma Kincaid in game one who got the win 12-4 with a line of five innings pitched with three earned runs on six hits with a strikeout and three walks. She improved to 4-2 as a freshman.
Bailey Miller drove in a run in the first inning for the Cowgirls.
Erin Love singled to score one in the second, followed by sac flies from
Kinzley Cantu and
Ella Salinas and an RBI single from
Madi Hubbard to lead 7-0.
Howard Payne scored four runs before
Kinzley Cantu singled for two RBIs in the third inning. Hubbard drove in two more RBIs with a single and
Kinzley Cantu added an RBI on a bunt in the fourth to make it 12-4 in the five-inning run rule.
Kinzley Cantu and
Grace Thompson had three hits each in game one, and
Kinzley Cantu and
Madi Hubbard each had four RBIs to lead the team.
Bree Battenfelder started pitching in game two and went seven innings with seven hits and only one run, finishing with six strikeouts and two walks in the complete-game win 6-1 against HPU.

Jazlynn Cantu each had two RBIs for the Cowgirls in the win, Cantu with a triple in the game.
The Cowgirls scored two in the second, two in the fourth, and two in the fifth innings while holding Howard Payne to just one run in the win.
The Cowgirls improved to 19-7 and 5-3 in ASC play and will travel to East Texas Baptist on April 24 to play a doubleheader at 4 p.m. in Marshall, Texas.
