ABILENE, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' Cowgirl soccer team poured it on with five goals in the shutout-win over Southwestern on Saturday afternoon at the HSU Soccer Complex.
Freshman
Andie Hafner scored the first goal of her career in the third minute off a ball in from
Maeve Connerty to take a Cowgirl lead early.
Tatum Barnett got a ball down the pipe from Connerty and
Lexi Templin to finish for the second Cowgirl goal in the fifth minute of the game to make it 2-0.
Barnett scored her second goal in tight in the 23
rd minute after a ball in from Hafner to make it 3-0 HSU.
Connerty got her shot at goal with her first goal of the season from a free kick in the 52
nd minute to make it 4-0 for Hardin-Simmons.
Freshman
Maddie Martinez scored her first Cowgirl goal in the 79
th minute with a finish off an assist from
Taylor Koch to make it a 5-0 win for Hardin-Simmons over the Pirates.
The Cowgirls dominated with 29 shots and 14 shots on goal. They also had added nine corner kicks against Southwestern.
The Cowgirl keeper squad had a combined shutout with
Rebecca Hall starting and collecting three saves in the first half.
Samantha Longoria started the second half for 23 minutes and
Peyton Scott finished the game with 22 minutes with one save.
The Cowgirls improved to 2-2-1 on the year and will travel to play at Texas Lutheran on Wednesday, Sept. 23 at 7 p.m. in Seguin, Texas.
