SHERMAN, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' Cowgirl volleyball split on Saturday, defeating Concordia Texas 3-1 and dropping the last match to host school Austin College 3-1.
The Cowgirls took down Concordia in the early match with scores of 26-24, 25-16, 22-25, and 25-19.
Rachel Nordt led the Cowgirls with 15 kills against the Tornados in the win.
Addy Delgado had 14 kills, and
Avery Tumlinson scored 11 kills in the middle. Tumlinson swung for a .611 attack percentage and Nordt hit .355 from the right side.
Brylee Pursley had 13 digs to lead the team and freshman
Whitlee Blacklock totaled 12 digs for Hardin-Simmons.
Allison O'Shaughnessy had 28 assists to lead the Cowgirls and
Madeleine Hanson added 17 assists for the team.
The Cowgirls took a tough loss in game two against the undefeated Austin College Kangaroos. HSU dropped both of the first two sets by break points, 26-24 and 28-26. The Cowgirls won set three before dropping the match to Austin in four.
Tumlinson once again had 11 kills for the Cowgirls in game two of the day.
Molly O'Shaughnessy and Nordt had nine kills apiece against Austin.
Pursley had 25 digs for the Cowgirl defense and Delgado added 14 digs.
Allison O'Shaughnessy had 23 assists, and Hanson totaled 15 assists.

Paige Stegall had five blocks each for the Cowgirls in the loss.
Hardin-Simmons finished the weekend 2-2 and will go on the road next weekend at Southwestern for a tournament weekend beginning on Friday, Sept. 11 at 10 a.m. against Texas Lutheran in Georgetown, Texas.
