Jean Leads Cowboys By Tigers

ABILENE, Texas - Mardochee Jean had his third double-double of the season to pace the Hardin-Simmons men's basketball team to a 75-71 American Southwest Conference win over East Texas Baptist, Monday night at the Mabee Complex.

Jean had 23 points, 11 rebounds, five assists and four blocks to pace the Cowboys' effort. He was also big down the stretch. He scored seven points in the final minutes of the game as the Cowboys, who once lead by as many as 12 points at 54-42, held off the hard-charging Tigers.

The Cowboys played the game without leading scorer Marcus Smith, who was out with a foot injury.

Charlie Pannell and Steven Luckey each had 13 points for the Cowboys and Ryan Ocheskey chipped in 12 points in his first career start.

East Texas Baptist, who has basically a new team from last year, was led by outstanding transfer La'France Cooper. Cooper scored 21 points, hauled in eight rebounds and dished six assists.

HSU is now 2-3 on the year and 1-1 in league play. East Texas Baptist fell to 1-5 overall and 1-1 in league action. The Cowboys play at McMurry on Saturday at 7:30 p.m.
