AUSTIN, Texas -
Hardin-Simmons' men's basketball team dropped a 93-88 game to close out the regular season Saturday afternoon in the final game ever played at the Woltman Activity Center in Austin.
The loss put the Cowboys as the No. 3 seed out of the ASC West in next week's conference tournament. HSU finished the regular season with a record of 14-11 overall and 13-9 in league play. Concordia improved to 17-8 overall and 14-7 in league play.
HSU survived a flurry of five 3-pointers in the first half by Joel McDonald and overcame a 10-point deficit to tie the game at the half 39-39. The game went back and forth in the second half and Concordia was able to pull away late after Mardochee Jean fouled out and the Cowboys had no answer for Valentino Maxwell, who scored 17 of his 23 points in the second half.
Rob Yeatts scored 24 points to lead the Cowboys. Charlie Pannell had a career-best 22 points and Marcus Smith had 19 points. Mardochee Jean had nine points and 16 rebounds before fouling out.
Maxwell had 23 points, McDonald had 18 and Brad Walker had 19 points for Concordia.
The Cowboys will play in the American Southwest Conference Tournament on Friday in Belton. The time and opponent will be determined.
