ABILENE, Texas — Hardin-Simmons'
men's basketball team won its second straight game as they
scored a season-high 102 points in a 102-81 win over Howard Payne
in American Southwest Conference action at the Mabee Complex.
Both teams came out of the gate finding the range as HSU led 50-44
at halftime. HPU shot 67 percent in the half and HSU shot 54.3
percent. The Cowboys had a nine-point lead on a couple of occasions
in the first half.
HSU put the game away with a strong push midway through the second
half. It was 62-53 when the Cowboys hit a 18-4 run to take an 80-57
lead with 9:23 to play. HPU was never closer than 16 points the
rest of the game.
The Cowboys hit 14 3-pointers in the game, including eight in the
first half. HSU had 26 assists on 38 made baskets.
Terrence Willis had 21 points to pace five Cowboys in double
figures. Carlos Singer had 19 points, Mark Schlott had 15, Rob
Yeatts 14 and Aaron Thornton had 11. Casey Riddle had eight points
and nine assists.
Tom Hermann led five Jackets into double figures with 19 points.
Bryan Blalock had 16 points.
Hardin-Simmons is now 5-10 on the year and 4-7 in ASC action.
Howard Payne fell to 4-12 overall and 4-8 in ASC play. HSU hosts
Sul Ross State on Saturday at the Mabee Complex.
