ABILENE, Texas — Hardin-Simmons had five
players score in double figures en route to a 83-72 win over the
Tornados in American Southwest Conference men's basketball
action Thursday evening at the Mabee Complex.
The teams were tied at 61-61 with 5:07 to play, but HSU closed the
game on a 22-11 run to seal the victory. John Derr started the run
with back-to-back 3-pointers. Carlos Singer then had a steal and a
3-pointer to give HSU a 72-63 lead with 2:48 to play.
Casey Riddle and Singer went 10-for-10 down the stretch at the
free throw line for the Cowboys.
Derr led the Cowboys with 20 points, including six 3-pointers.
Riddle had 15 points, Singer and Aaron Thornton had 14 each and
MyKale Hall added 13.
HSU forced the Tornados into 26 turnovers and limited them to 40
percent shooting for the game. HSU overcame an early 11-0 deficit
to trail only 33-32 at halftime.
The Cowboys are now 4-13 on the year and 4-9 in ASC West action.
Concordia fell to 10-8 overall and 8-6 in ASC play. HSU will host
Mary Hardin-Baylor on Saturday at 3 p.m.
