AUSTIN, Texas — Hardin-Simmons' men's
basketball team turned the ball over 19 times in the first half and
could never recover in a 106-78 American Southwest Conference loss
to Concordia on Thursday night at the Concordia Fieldhouse in
Austin.
The Cowboys finished the game with 32 turnovers against the
Concordia pressure. HSU made one run in the middle of the second
half to cut the deficit to eight points, but Concordia immediately
went on a 11-0 run to push the lead back to 19 and the Cowboys were
never in the game again.
Freshman John Derr led the Cowboys with 23 points, 18 of which came
in the first half. Casey Riddle had 12 points and Zach Rule added
11.
Nick Haynes was the story for the Tornados as he hit six 3-pointers
en route to a 25-point night. Every time the Cowboys would make a
mini-run he had an answer. Concordia hit 11 3-pointers in the game.
Brad Walker had 24 points for Concordia, despite not starting for
the first time.
The Cowboys are now 4-16 on the year and 4-12 in ASC action.
Concordia improved to 11-9 on the year and to 9-7 in league play.
HSU plays at Mary Hardin-Baylor on Saturday.
