Box Score ABILENE, Texas — Hardin-Simmons' men's basketball team remained undefeated with an 85-75 win over Centenary on Thursday evening at the Mabee Complex.
The teams went back and forth early on but a 16-2 Hardin-Simmons run gave the Cowboys control with a 27-14 lead at the 9:47 mark. HSU pushed the lead to as many as 21 at 48-27 with 1:36 to play, but Centenary hit back-to-back 3-pointers before halftime to make it 48-33 at halftime.
In the second half, the Gents chipped away at the Cowboy lead and eventually cut it to 68-66 with 6:53 to play, but the Cowboys held on down the stretch. Senior guard Matt Addison scored 10 points in the final 4:04, including 8-of-8 at the free throw line.
Addison finished the night with 28 points, eight assists and six steals to pace four Cowboys in double figures. Derrick Jefferson and Bernard Stiggers each had 12 points and George Nelso added 11 points and 11 rebounds.
Maxx Nakwasssah had 25 points for Centenary before fouling out. Jairus Browning had 12 points, nine rebounds and eight assists.
HSU scored 34 points off 27 Centenary turnovers and HSU had 17 steals.
The Cowboys are now 6-0 overall and Centenary fell to 2-5. The Gents' games this season do not count in the American Southwest Conference standings. HSU will return to ASC action on Saturday when it hosts East Texas Baptist at 3 p.m.
