BROWNWOOD, Texas — Hardin-Simmons' men's basketball team beat Howard Payne 85-76 with a total team effort on Saturday afternoon in American Southwest Conference action at the Brownwood Coliseum.

Eleven of the 12 Cowboy players scored in the game and senior Terrance Booker led the Cowboys with a season-best 16 points and he scored 14 of those in the second half. Andy Spears had 14 points off the bench and Matt Addison chipped in 15 points.

HSU jumped to a 9-2 lead in the opening minutes of the game, before HPU responded with a 7-0 run to take its only lead of the game at 10-9. The Cowboys came right back with an 8-2 run and never trailed the rest of the game. HSU led 32-26 at halftime.

In the second half, HSU quickly pushed the lead out to 13 points at 44-31 on a Terrance Booker 3-pointer with 16:10 to play. HSU never led by less than five points the rest of the way.

The Cowboys forced 18 turnovers by the Yellow Jackets in the game and committed just 12 of their own. HSU had a 24-9 advantage in points off turnovers. HSU also outscored the HPU bench 33-13.   

Brandon Irwin led HPU with 23 points, Brandon Gould added 17 and Joshua Dada had 13 points.

HSU is now 12-2 on the year and 9-1 in ASC play and Howard Payne fell to 7-8 overall and 5-6 in league play. The game ended a 40-day seven-game road trip for the Cowboys that spanned over 2,000 miles on the land and another 2,000 through the air. HSU returns home to play Mary Hardin-Baylor on Thursday at the Mabee Complex.
