Box Score ABILENE, Texas — Titus Mims had 25 points and 12 rebounds on his senior day to propel the Hardin-Simmons men's basketball team to an 82-71 American Southwest Conference win over East Texas Baptist on Saturday at the Mabee Complex.
The Cowboys have won 10 straight games to set a new school record in the non-scholarship era and also have won 15 of the last 16 games. HSU is 16-7 on the year and 16-4 in league play. ETBU fell to 8-14 overall and 6-13 in conference action.
HSU honored its four seniors – Mims, Jim Walter, Charles Sams and John Barnes, before the game. Sams and Barnes each had 15 points for HSU and Barnes added seven assists. Walter had six points, six rebounds and three assists in his final home game.
HSU jumped to an early 18-8 lead and trailed for only possession of the entire game, but ETBU hung around by hitting 13 3-pointers in the game, including seven by Dylan Augustine. Augustine led ETBU with 21 points and Tyler Day added 16.
The Cowboys led by double digits most of the second half, but ETBU made one last charge to cut it to 69-64 with 5:41 to play. The Cowboys executed down the stretch to pull away.
HSU closes the regular season at Mary Hardin-Baylor and Concordia next weekend.
