BELTON, Texas  — Hardin-Simmons' men's basketball team had its 10-game winning streak snapped with an 83-76 loss to Mary Hardin-Baylor on Thursday night at the Mayborn Campus Center in Belton.

UMHB jumped to a quick 20-12 lead at the 6:58 mark of the first half, but the Cowboys 10 of the nest 12 points to tie the game at 22 on Charles Sams' fourth 3-pointewr of the half. The Cru took a 33-29 lead at halftime.

In the second half, James Allen came out on fire and put the Cowboys in a hole. He hit five 3-pointers in the first 8:53 of the second half and pushed the lead to 60-45 with 11:07 to play in the game.

The Cowboys made a push and cut it 75-67 with 2:09 to play and cut it to five on a couple of occasions but never any closer.  UMHB kept the Cowboys at a distance by hitting 6-of-8 free throws in the final minute when HSU was stopping the clock with fouls.

Derrick Jefferson led the Cowboys with 25 points, seven rebounds, three assists and three steals. Charles Sams hit five 3-pointers for 15 points. Titus Mims and John Barnes each had 13 points in the second half after being shut out in the first half.

Allen led the Cru with 27 points and Antoine Chaney and Kitrick Bell each had 18 points. Bell added 10 rebounds as well.

Both teams are now 16-8 on the year. HSU is 16-5 in league play and UMHB is 14-7. HSU closes the regular-season at Concordia on Saturday.
