Box Score MARSHALL, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' men's basketball team fell 90-75 to East Texas Baptist in American Southwest Conference action at Ornelas Gym on Saturday afternoon in Marshall.
The Cowboys started off hot and pushed a lead out to 31-17 with 4:55 to play in the first half, but the Tigers responded and closed the half with a 16-4 run, including three straight 3-pointers by Dylan Augustine and HSU led 35-33 at halftime.
HSU trailed just 49-46 with 12:37 to play and then the Tigers hit the knockout punch by hitting 10 straight shots over the next six minutes to push the lead to 73-59 with 6:46 to play on a Junior Mitchell 3-pointer. The Cowboys were never closer than nine points the rest of the way.
ETBU turned 16 HSU turnovers into 19 points and led 19-4 in points off turnovers. ETBU also had a 42-24 advantage in points in the paint.
Christian O'Neal led the Cowboys with 21 points and
Justin Jones had 15 points and 12 rebounds and
Nathaniel Jack had 13 points and 10 rebounds.
Cameron Barnes added 11 points.
Mitchell led the Tigers with 24 points. Dylan Augustine had 17 and Eric Horton and Isaiah Thomas added 12 points each.
HSU is now 4-4 on the year and 1-1 in conference play. ETBU improved to 5-1 overall and 1-0 in league play. HSU hosts LeTourneau next Saturday at 7:30 in its next action.
