Box Score LONGVIEW, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' men's basketball team snapped its four-game losing streak with a huge 84-58 American Southwest Conference win over LeTourneau on Saturday afternoon at the Solheim Arena in Longview,
HSU put the game away in the opening minutes. HSU led 9-0 4:26 into the game and never trailed. The Cowboys pushed the lead out to 43-21 at halftime, which was the biggest lead of the first half. The Cowboys never let the Yellow Jackets have life in the second half and pushed the lead to as many as 32.
HSU dominated the glass 47-32 and had nine blocked shots and forced 20 turnovers, while holding the Yellowjackets to 19-of-32 (30.2 percent) from the field. HSU had a 40-18 advantage in points in the paint.
The Cowboys had five players in double figures.
Justin Jones had 17 points, eight rebounds and six blocks to pace the Cowboys.
Derrick Jefferson had 13 points,
Charles Sams hit four 3-pointers for 12 points and
Cameron Barnes and
Nate Lewis had 11 points each.
Kelby Schimming and Aaron Frizell had 13 points each for LeTourneau.
HSU is now 17-6 on the year and 13-5 in American Southwest Conference play. LeTourneau fell to 5-18 overall and 3-15 in league play. The Cowboys will close the regular season with home games against Concordia and Mary Hardin-Baylor next week.
