Box Score BROWNWOOD, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' men's basketball team saw its six-game winning streak snapped with a 77-69 loss to Howard Payne on Thursday evening at the Brownwood Coliseum.
HSU started the game off hot and took a 24-12 lead. Howard Payne battled back and cut the deficit to 32-30 at the halftime break.
The Yellowjackets took control with a strong start to the second half and pushed the lead out to 10. HSU battled back and cut it to 64-63 but never got any closer and the Jackets closed it down the stretch.
Christian O'Neal led the Cowboys with 15 points.
Justin Jones added 12 points and
Duane Hopper 10.
Nathaniel Jack had nine points and 13 rebounds in the game for the Cowboys.
Khyce Randall led a balanced Howard Payne attack with 18 points. Rickey Guillory had 16 points and 11 rebounds and Volney Willis had 14 points, including 12 in the second half. D.J. Gardner added 11 points off the bench.
The Cowboys are now 10-5 overall and 6-2 in ASC action. Howard Payne improved to 6-9 overall and 3-3 in ASC play. HSU plays at Sul Ross State on Saturday at 3 p.m.
