Box Score ABILENE, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' men's basketball team had five players in double figures as it rolled by Belhaven 106-81 in non-conference action on Saturday at the Mabee Complex.
HSU used a 9-0 run early in the first half to take a 17-6 lead. The Cowboys slowly continued to add to the lead and led 44-21 with 4:24 to play in the half. HSU took a 52-31 lead into halftime.
Christian O'Neal scored 11 straight points for the Cowboys from the 11:14 mark to the 8:56 mark. The Cowboys pushed the lead out to as many as 31 in the second half.
HSU dominated the glass with a 43-24 advantage and had 19 offensive rebounds that led to a 24-4 lead in second-chance points.
The Cowboys shared the basketball well as they had 28 assists on 38 made baskets, with
Ryan Leiss delivering a career-best nine.
Jones led the way for the Cowboys with 22 points and
Nathaniel Jack had 20 points and 12 rebounds.
Caleb Spoon hit five 3-pointers and finished with 16,
Christian O'Neal added 14 and
Duane Hopper added 12. Freshman
Chris Henderson had eight points in four minutes of action for the Cowboys.
Brandon Pressley had 17 points for Belhaven and Victor Price added 15.
HSU is now 6-3 on the year and Belhaven fell to 2-5. The Cowboys will play at Texas Lutheran at 8 p.m. Monday.
