ABILENE, Texas – Freshman Steven Quinn scored 29 points and hauled down eight rebounds to propel Hardin-Simmons to a 95-69 win over Howard Payne in American Southwest Conference basketball action on Thursday night at the Mabee Complex.
The two teams played a tightly contested first half that saw the Cowboys lead 36-33 at halftime as Chris Barrett hit a shot at the buzzer.
The Cowboys then came out and used a quick 8-0 run to push the lead out to 44-33 and continued to build on the lead from there. HSU pushed the lead out to 75-52 with 6:20 remaining and the starters came out of the game.
Sophomore Bryce Richardson hit 4-for-4 from 3-point range down the stretch. Hsu went 13-for-24 from 3-point range in the game and held the Yellow Jackets to 4-for-17.
Quinn was joined in double figures by Joe Hoeup with 22, Chris Barrett added 13 points and Richardson scored a career-best 12 points.
Shadd Cole had 18 points to pace Howard Payne and Timothy Aguero had 15 points, sevens assists and six rebounds.
The Cowboys are now 10-8 on the year and 5-4 in league play. Howard Payne fell to 3-14 overall and 1-7 in conference play. HSU will play Sul Ross State on Saturday at 3 p.m.
