Box Score DALLAS, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' men's basketball team saw its rally from a 21-point first-half deficit fall just short in an 82-79 loss to UNT-Dallas on Tuesday evening in Dallas.
UNTD took advantage of a variety of Hardin-Simmons turnovers in the first half and turned them into transition baskets. The Trailblazers led 46-25 with 2:13 to play in the first half. HSU closed the half on an 8-0 run to cut the deficit to 46-33 at halftime.
The Cowboys chipped away at the UNTD lead all second half and finally tied the game at 77 with :45 to play on a Neal Chambliss offensive rebound and put back. Hysheam Weston then converted a 3-point play to make it 80-77 and Steven Quinn added a bucket to make it 80-79.
HSU had to foul and Curtis Coleman hit a pair of free throws to make it 82-79 with :16 to play. HSU had a pair of good looks to tie the game but both fell off the rim.
Brennon led the Cowboys with 24 points, Quinn added 15 and Chambliss had 14 points and a career-best 20 rebounds.
Coleman led the Trailblazers with 25 points and Weston added 19.
The Cowboys are now 1-1 on the year and UNT-D improved to 3-2. HSU will host Mary Hardin-Baylor at 6 p.m. on Friday in the home opener.
