ABILENE, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' men's basketball team won its third straight game with an 82-75 win over East Texas Baptist on Saturday afternoon at the Mabee Complex.
The game was a physical affair that featured 57 fouls in the contest. HSU was 31-of-40 at the free throw line and ETBU went 21-of-34 at the charity stripe.
HSU used an 10-0 run from the 12:36 mark of the first half to the 9:24 mark to take a 23-15. Five different players scored during the run for the Cowboys. The Cowboys never trailed after that run. HSU pushed the lead out to 37-22 on a breakaway dunk by Kyle Brennon with 2:59 to play.
ETBU closed the deficit to 42-34 at halftime. In the second half, the Cowboys had an answer every time the Tigers made a push. ETBU cut it to one on three different occasions but never could take the lead.
Kyle Brennon led a balanced Cowboy attack with 19 points, Steven Quinn added 11 and Neal Chambliss added 10. Trey Wooldridge scored eight points and hauled in 10 rebounds.
Chris Haynes had 21 points and Landin Brown added 20 for ETBU.
The Cowboys received another good effort from its bench as the Cowboys outscored ETBU 26-16 off the bench. The game featured four ties and nine lead changes, all in the first half.
Both teams are now 4-2 and the game was a non-conference game. HSU will return to action on Wednesday at 7 p.m. when it travels down Ambler Avenue to take on Abilene Christian in an exhibition game.
