Box Score ALPINE, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' men's basketball team saw its six-game winning streak snapped with a 77-70 loss at Sul Ross State in American Southwest Conference action at the Gallego Center in Alpine on Thursday evening.
The Lobos led 27-23 when they went on a 10-3 run to take a 37-26 lead late in the first half. The Cowboys then scored the last five points of the first half and the first four points of the second half for a 9-0 run to cut the deficit to 37-35 with 19:09 to play.
Tristan Licon scored eight points in a run 14-4 run that gave the Lobos a 55-45 lead with 12:00 to play. HSU was never within six points the rest of the way as a 2-for-12 effort at the free throw line in the second half prevented them from getting back in the game.
Aidan Walsh and Kyle Brennon had 14 points each for the Cowboys and Steven Quinn and Chase Cobb added 11.
Licon scored 36 points and hauled in 14 rebounds. Carson Perkins chipped in 11 for the Lobos.
The Cowboys are now 7-3 on the year and 2-1 in league play. Sul Ross State improved to 4-5 overall and 2-2 in ASC action. HSU will play Howard Payne at 3 p.m. on Saturday in Brownwood.
