Box Score ABILENE, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' men's basketball team moved its winning streak to four games with an 85-70 win over Wayland Baptist on Saturday afternoon at the Mabee Complex.
The Cowboys came out aggressive defensively and forced 19 turnovers and turned them into 26 points. It also opened the transition game and the Cowboys had a 19-4 advantage in fast-break points in the game.
HSU used an 8-0 run from the 3:26 mark of the first half to the 1:22 mark to push the lead out to 47-31 in the first half.
The Pioneers made a run to cut it to 56-47 early in the second half but the Cowboys answered right back with a 10-0 surge to put the game out of reach at 66-47 with 10:25 to play. WBU was never able to get closer than 12 points the rest of the way.
Kyle Brennon led three Cowboys in double figures with 20 points. Aidan Walsh added 17 and Steven Quinn scored 13.
Devin Avent led Wayland with 16 points and Chinedu Okonkwo scored 10.
The Cowboys are now 5-2 on the year and will open American Southwest Conference play at defending league champion LeTourneau on Thursday in Longview. Wayland Baptist fell to 1-1 on the year.
