ABILENE, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' men's basketball team fell 77-67 to Mary Hardin-Baylor in American Southwest Conference action at the Mabee Complex on Thursday night.

HSU started the game on fire and jumped out to an 8-0 lead and eventually led 19-7. The Cru chipped away at the deficit and cut it to 23-19. HSU then pushed the lead back to 37-30 at halftime.

The Cowboys scored the first basket of the second half then the Cru came right back with an 8-0 run. Another run by the Cru, this time a 14-2 run pushed the lead out to 60-48 and the Cowboys never recovered.  

Aidan Walsh led four Cowboys in double figures with 16 points. Steven Quinn scored 11 and Chase Cobb and Anthony Hunter had 10 points each.

Byrale Carter led five Cru players in double figures with 19 points and 10 rebounds. Aedan Welch hit four 3-pointers and scored 16 points, Carson Hammond scored 14, Josiah Johnson had 13, and Ty Prince scored 10.

The Cowboys are now 8-4 on the year and 3-2 in ASC action. UMHB improved to 6-3 overall and 3-0 in conference play. HSU will next be in action on Thursday at Concordia (COVID permitting).
