Box Score AUSTIN, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' men's basketball team used a strong defensive effort to stifle high-scoring Concordia, 81-57 in American Southwest Conference action Thursday night in Austin.
HSU held the Tornados to 35.1 percent in the game and outrebounded them 57-32. HSU had a 40-18 advantage in points in the paint and outscored the Tornados 24-6 on second-chance points. The Cowboys had 19 offensive rebounds in the contest.
Both teams came out hot and Concordia led 27-23 with 6:55 to play in the first half. HSU then exploded on a 20-6 run to close the first half and to take control of the game. HSU led 43-33 at halftime.
HSU continued to build the lead, allowing only one field goal in the first 11:54 of the second half, which allowed them to open the lead to 63-39.
Five Cowboys scored in double figures in the contest with Steven Quinn leading the way with 14 points. Neal Chambliss had 13 points and 15 rebounds, Aidan Walsh and Chase Cobb scored 11 points each and Anthony Hunter added 10.
Trevon Hester led Concordia with 13 points and Spence Bone added 10.
Hardin-Simmons is now 9-4 overall and 4-2 in conference play. Concordia fell to 1-3 overall and 0-3 in ASC play. HSU will play at ASC West leader Mary Hardin-Baylor on Saturday at 3 p.m.
