Box Score MARSHALL, Texas – Chase Cobb tipped in a rebound with :03 to give Hardin-Simmons an 84-83 win over American Southwest Conference over East Texas Baptist on Saturday afternoon at Ornelas Gym.
ETBU had taken the lead with 8.3 seconds on a steal and layup by Logan Blow. Steven Quinn's shot for the win rimmed out but Cobb was right there for the put back for the win. Aaron Gregg's desperation attempt fell off the rim for ETBU.
Quinn was dominant for the Cowboys in the second half as HSU trailed 44-37 at halftime. He hit 9-of-11 shots in the second half and scored 24 points as the Cowboys overcame the deficit, marking the second straight game on the opening weekend of ASC play the Cowboys erased a second-half deficit for the win.
Quinn tied his career-high with 30 points to lead four Cowboys in double figures. Cobb had 12 points, Aidan Walsh had 11 and Neal Chambliss added 10 points.
ETBU shot 55.8 percent in the game, but the Cowboys forced 20 turnovers that they turned into 28 points and outrebounded the Tigers 34-24 in the contest.
Aaron Gregg had 22 points and 10 assists for ETBU, Blow added 18 and Charlie Cochran scored 17.
The Cowboys are 7-2 overall and 2-0 in league play. ETBU is now 6-4 overall and 1-1 in ASC action. HSU will play at Sul Ross State and Howard Payne next weekend.
