Box Score ABILENE, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' men's basketball team beat Sul Ross State 81-74 on Thursday night in American Southwest Conference action at the Mabee Complex.
The Cowboys pushed their first-half lead out to 31-20 with 5:23 to play in the half but the Lobos made a late push in the half and HSU led 35-33 at halftime.
HSU led 60-56 with 7:56 to play in the game, but the Cowboys extended the lead with three 3-pointers from Aidan Walsh as the Cowboys quickly made it 73-63. HSU held on down the stretch for its third straight win.
Walsh led the Cowboys with 18 points, including 15 in the second half. Steven Quinn and Trey Wooldridge each had double-doubles. Quinn had 16 points and 12 rebounds and Wooldridge had 12 points and 10 rebounds. Kannon Jones had his second straight big game off the bench with 15 points.
Caelyb Kerley led four Lobos in double figures with 15 points Julian Peredes scored 11 points and Omar Boone added 12 and Jace Perkins scored 10 off the bench.
The Cowboys are now 12-5 overall and 7-3 in ASC play. Sul Ross State is now 7-9 overall and 5-6 in league play. HSU will host Howard Payne on Saturday at 6 p.m. at the Mabee Complex.
